‘The Package Deal’ is an installation, performance and video production. It is based on the idea that each of us, consciously or unconsciously, chooses a particular ‘look’ which we feel defines us and defines how we want others to perceive us. The project is also a comment on the dangers of stereotyping.
I dressed up and played the characters of fifteen different stereotypes, each being a parody of the culture this stereotype addresses. I lined my studio wall with cardboard boxes, each displaying a photo of myself dressed as a specific stereotype, together with the appropriate vehicle, male figure (in most cases), and setting. Contained within each box are all the clothes and accessories required for that particular character.
