About Jane Korman
I am a performance and video artist. My art deals with gender, stereotypes and prejudice, as well as my perception of, and concern about the continuing presence of anti-Semitism in the world. My latest project is informed by my family history, being the child of Holocaust survivors, and the impact of my parents’ repeated stories of their war time experiences. I dress up and perform a variety of personas that comment on family memoirs and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. My characters include Miss World Peace, Missed World Peace, Lady Gaza, Just an Ordinary Peasant and The Scary Ones. These characters appear in my video pieces and serve as a visual caution on the dangers of prejudice.
This year I was the recipient of the Palazzi Master of Fine Art award at Monash University for my video project: ‘Deja-Vu, Watch Out Jew’.
